Is it a ghost? Or a thing?— Aquajet316 talking about the Weird Thing in his video. The Weird Thing is one of the earliest myths to exist, being the first to have a surviving video documenting it. It was created on December 7th, 2008, when aquajet316 uploaded his video titled "Roblox Myth Investigators: Case No1 The Weird Thing".
Biography
The Weird Thing appears to be some sort of a gray figure. Figuring out exactly what it is is difficult due to the fact that the video it originates from is extremely pixelated due to it's age. Judging by comments by aquajet316, this presence is not a consistent object, and doesn't spawn in every time that you play the game.
According to the description of the second video, the mysterious object was in fact caused by a glitch randomly spawning in an NPC model. Other comments claim that the ghost was just a glitch in Roblox's lighting engine, causing more than one shadow to appear from a singular character.
History
The video "Roblox Myth Investigators: Case No1 The Weird Thing" was uploaded on December 7th, 2008. Only a day later, the follow-up video on the myth was uploaded by aquajet316. Due to the circumstances behind this myth, taking place in a private place developed by aquajet, the myth died after his second video on the topic.
In the current day, The Weird Thing is mostly remembered for it's legacy and for eventually causing the creation of "Roblox Myth Investigators", which was the first myth hunting group. Eventually, this small group of people investigating strange happenings, would evolve into the myth community we know today.
Appearance
Due to the very low quality of the video featuring "The Weird Thing", describing The Weird Thing's appearance is very difficult. It appears to just be a gray brick, possibly being the shadow of a player (see Theories).

Theories
- It was caused by an NPC Spawning Script.
- In a later video the script spawns another NPC.
- The Weird Thing is the player's shadow.
- In the same follow-up video, you can see the player having as much as 3 shadows. The reason for this is due to Roblox's old lighting engine being glitchy at times.
Trivia
- The Roblox account "Aquajet316" is an impersonator of the YouTuber Aquajet316, as Aquajet316's real Roblox account is named Bill31697.
- Bill31697 is currently a member of Robloxian Myth Hunters, and is friended to hunters like heminabove and Foxicarus.
